Mark Validation System Services
The Mark Validation System offers the following services:
Validating a mark for its legitimacy
Sunrise and Claims Services for a period of 1 to 3 years
Watch Services for a period of 1 to 3 years
Sunrise Services and Claims Services
Sunrise is a period initiated prior to the public launch of a TLD. In the Sunrise period, mark holders are given the opportunity to register their validated marks as domain names, ensuring that their marks are protected across their specified TLDs.
The Mark Validation System allows Mark Holders to upload their marks, get them validated, and obtain the necessary Signed Mark Data in order to register their mark as a domain name during the Sunrise Period. The diagram below illustrates the 5 step process of the MVS Sunrise Service.
As part of the ZACR TLD Launch plan, a period is initiated for where commonly sought-after domain names are registered or bid for by various registrants. This period is known as the Landrush Period and will be conducted in parallel to the Sunrise Period.
During the Landrush Period, the MVS Claims Service will provide notification to validated mark holders if a domain name matching their validated mark is registered. This protects mark holders by allowing them to take appropriate action as soon as possible.
The MVS offers the following relating to Sunrise and Claims Services:
Notification of upcoming ZACR TLD Sunrise periods
Provision of SMDs for registration of validated marks as domain names
Notice when attempting to register a domain that has an existing validated mark with the MVS
Watch Services are an extension of the Claims Services. Through the MVS, mark holders are able to associate Variants to their marks. Variants are strings that are confusingly similar to a mark, but are not validated as legitimate marks. An example of a validated mark is "Books". A variant of "books" is "bo0ks" or "mybooks".
Mark holders of validated marks that have associated variants and have been marked for Watch Services will receive notification from the MVS when a domain name matching any of the variants is registered across their specified TLDs. This protects mark holders by allowing them to take appropriate action as soon as possible.
The diagram below illustrates the MVS Claims and Watch Service.
